Beautiful European-Designed Vehicles

Give me a Lamborghini and a weekend in the Sierra Nevadas, and I'll come back with the meaning of life. Inspired by a quote in Car and Driver magazine You buy a Ferrari when you want to be somebody. You buy a Lamborghini when you are somebody. Frank Sinatra Lamborghinis are hybrid cars, they run on gasoline and money.  (Unknown)Here comes 40. I'm feeling my age and I've ordered the Ferrari. I'm going to get the whole mid-life crisis package. Keanu Reeves The client is not always right. Enzo FerrariAerodynamics are for people who can't build engines. Enzo FerrariIt's impossible to overdo luxury. French Proverb

Things I find curious ...

Image
I know the media loves getting out there to cover our dead. God knows it's often the first or maybe second time that the particular Service member has graced the local publications. In instances when it's a first-time occasion, let's just say ... I resent that.

I resent the fact that it takes a death to talk about a life and service a troop has committed to our country.
I resent the often terribly shitty photo used by local media to cover the Service member's death.
What I resent even more though is when media gets out there before the Department of Defense publishes the release. Why is that? Well, since I was on the other side of the fence for much of my adult life working in that capacity as a Public Affairs Soldier, let me tell you ...

When a Service member is killed, someone is notified (the next of kin as specified on their emergency notification form) and gets that unfortunate knock on the door. For injured troops, the next of kin normally just gets a phone call (k…

Wreaths Across America

Image
I was only at the South Florida National Cemetery a few minutes before a woman decorated with Vietnam accourtraments came up to me to inquire which paper I was with. "I'm not with a paper," I told her. "I'm here for myself. I'm a Veteran."

There's nothing identifiably "Veteran" about me. I was in my Diesel shoes, fitted jeans and a black short sleeve shirt with my long, wavy hair up in a ponytail. I brought my sunglasses just in case I needed to shield the world from my tears. Within those first few minutes, my eyes already found a reason to tear. I flipped my sunglasses over my eyes and continued chatting with Marilyn McKenzie.
"My husband is buried here," she said to me.

Marilyn lost her husband in the Vietnam war. Just hearing this made me incredibly sad for her loss and fearful because the love of my life is in Afghanistan. I cannot help but feel for the survivors of our brave men and women. My eyes ... oh, my sensitive and emot…

I have fallen in love with Peruvian cuisine. Is it because the love of my life is Peruvian, is it because the food is delightfully tasty or is it both? Ummm ... I'd say it's both.

I spent the day house hunting with my realtor. If my honey wasn't away right now then he would have joined us. Nonetheless, I photographed the homes I liked and hoped to share with him before moving forward with the purchase. As always, my heart was missing him so after checking out the neighborhood of my favorite home today, I took the nearest main road and headed home. What did I see? I saw a restaurant I've never noticed before that served PERUVIAN CUISINE! Nice. I had to check it out to see if the food was any good.

I walked in and the restaurant was pretty quiet. A gentleman greeted me as I walked through the door. As it turns out, he owns the place. Don't you just love getting greeted when you walk through the door with a genuine smile and greeting? I do!

He and his wife fed me to …

Are you selling a home or a pile of crap?

I blogged the other month about how to avoid posting terrible photos with your property for sale/rent. Now that I'm in the market and am seriously looking for a house, I cannot even begin to tell you how absurd some of these photos are.
For example, why put a refrigerator in front of a door and window? LOL Are you trying to make it look like you can't fit basic appliances in your kitchen? No bueno. Even a "teenage-sized" fridge (as I call it) would be better than a large fridge that blocks an entrance and light. Home owners, ooooh man. What are you thinking? I've seen people put the fridge in the hall, a pantry and in a different room. That's even worse, if you ask me!

Of course there are the super stellar photos of "clean" houses to consider as well. Ummm ... by "clean" I suppose I mean the messiest bunch of crap piled into a room that is supposed to appear livable. Was it really too difficult to make your bed for the photo? What about th…

Vietnamese Family Portraits

Image
A wonderful afternoon photographing such a beautiful family in Boynton Beach, Florida. Their traditional Vietnamese attire (ao dai or Áo dài) was vibrant, amazingly detailed and stunning.
