Ireland: The Emerald Isle

I recently went to Ireland for the first time. I had always dreamed of going to Ireland - the Emerald Isle. I knew nothing of Ireland though other than the superficial things I learned about American-Irish celebrations of St. Patty's Day. I knew there was much more to it though and wanted to learn.

I mentioned before that the book I came upon in Iraq called Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks sealed the deal for me -- I loved his book and decided Ireland was a must-visit. A friend of mine who was stationed in Germany asked me if I wanted to go with him to ... somewhere in Europe. He asked where I wanted to go and I said, "Take me to Dublin!"

Now, part of the reason for wanting to go to Dublin was that it was a shorter flight than traveling elsewhere in Europe. The further south I'd go, the longer the trip and, my little airport offers connecting flights anyway so I wanted one that was fairly reasonable and fairly quick. Dublin it was!!

The trip wasn't that…

Little Steps ... Back in Heels

It's been a few years since I've worn high heels. Once I became pregnant, the heels went away. Heels are bad for the back, feet, hips, etc., but they are even worse for a pregnant body. So, away went the heels. After giving birth to my oldest, I did baby wearing which meant I was always carrying around her weight and my extra baby weight that didn't magically disappear. Extra weight, carrying a baby, wearing heels ... all of that spells discomfort.

Pregnant a few years later and the same thing again. Wearing my little one while chasing my growing toddler was a horrible combo for heels. They were impractical. As a stay-at-home mum, it just seemed like a waste to even venture back into high heels.

Fast forward a bit of time ... last July I started refocusing on what I want, what makes me happy, what I physically want of myself (now that I'm done being a creator of life and nurturer of life as a milk maker). It's not an easy journey delving inside and sorting through…

Happy New Year!!

Finally. OMG am I glad that it's a new calendar year. Last year was a doozy. Far too many downs, not nearly enough ups. But that's now over and done with. Let's just wash the slate clean and begin anew.

So, here we are. A new day of a new year. 2018!! And, the way I kick off the new year is with the latest issue of Women in Art 278 Magazine. (Link to the mag at the bottom of the blog)

I am constantly in awe of the women featured in the magazine. I love the way they see the world, I love the way they interpret beauty, how they express their emotions, how they work through pain, their joy, their curiosity - all through their art.

Besides starting the year off on the right foot, what else does it have in store for me? A few things to begin: stepping foot on foreign soil (I'll blog about that when the trip comes to fruition) and I'm starting graduate school. I'm quite happy to start the process of earning my masters. It's one of those things that are important…
